Please let her know if you would be willing to spend an hour once in a while with the little ones. his is a great opportunity for the youth who are looking to fulfill their Community Service time. Responds to Earthquake in Haiti

Many thank to all those who have already responded

to this urgent appeal.

In the month of February the Presbyterian Church in Canada through Presbyterian World Service and Development raised over

$800 000.00

for Haiti Relief. Much of that money will also be matched by our federal Government.

Thanks for your support!

Haiti Earthquake Appeal

A massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Port-au-Prince, the capital of impoverished Haiti on Tuesday, causing widespread death and destruction and leaving relief workers scrambling to pull people from the rubble.

Over three million people are estimated to have been affected by the powerful quake, leaving homes and schools in ruins, destroying infrastructure and trapping people in the debris. The city is without electricity and the telephone network has broken down. The UN headquarters has collapsed and people are sitting in the streets with nowhere to go. While a full assessment is still ongoing, thousands are estimated dead with millions of dollars of damage.

PWS&D Responds

PWS&D is responding to this emergency situation through the Action by Churches Together Alliance. ACT staff on the ground are carrying out assessments of damage and the needs of survivors. While international aid is being flown in, ACT has been working on the ground from the moment the earthquake occurred. ACT is planning to send a rapid support team of at least a response coordinator, a communicator, two water and sanitation experts and a finance expert. ACT members are also preparing to send water and sanitation materials, hygiene kits, and psychosocial workers to the devastated area.

You Can Help

The people of Haiti need your prayers and financial support to bring hope and relief. Congregations and individuals are encouraged to bring help to the situation by making a donation to PWS&D. Call 1-800-619-7301 ext. 291, donate online, through your church or mail a cheque to the office. Please mark all donations “Haiti Earthquake Relief.”

Presbyterian World Service & Development is the development and relief agency of The Presbyterian Church in Canada.

Have Jewelry, Will Travel

I have bins of beautiful handmade jewelry made by the ladies in Uganda.
They are part of a project called Caring Hands. These ladies are working
hard to improve their life and the lives of their families and communities.
If you are meeting with any group of ladies, four or more, I will come with
the jewelry and they can look at it. I also have a DVD about the project. If
you wish your group could come to my home instead.
I can provide tea and coffee.
All the proceeds go to charity. Seventy percent goes directly to Uganda
and thirty percent goes to the C.A R.E. project at St. Andrews Presbyterian
Church, Stittsville. If you would like to learn more about this or want to
book a date, please call Anita Wong at 613 836-9564
